The Norman Howard School was established in 1980 by parents and community professionals, and is a nonprofit, NYSED-approved, 12:1:1, academic, special education program. Students grades 5-12 from over 30 school districts experience a rich and diverse school culture, learn strategies for managing their special learning needs, and graduate alongside their public school peers.

Job Summary:

We are seeking reliable and flexible Per-Diem Substitute Teachers to support our students in the absence of regular classroom teachers. The ideal candidate will maintain a positive learning environment, follow lesson plans, and ensure continuity of instruction across grade levels and subject areas.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the regular teacher. Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning. Manage student behavior in accordance with school policies and procedures. Take attendance and document classroom activities as required. Communicate effectively with students, staff, and administrators. Follow all school safety and emergency procedures. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Knowledge of content-related pedagogy Demonstrated ability to manage a classroom and engage students. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Flexibility to work on short notice and adapt to different school environments and grade levels.

Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred. Valid NYS teaching certification preferred. Prior teaching or classroom experience preferred. Experience working with students with diverse learning needs. Strong classroom management and communication skills. Ability to adapt to different classroom environments and grade levels.

Work Schedule:

On-call basis, as needed. Assignments may vary in length from a single day to multiple days.

Compensation:

$130 Full Day (4 hours or more) $65 Half Day (less than 4 hours) Commitment to
