The Part-Time Instructor Assistant and Barn Aide is an essential member of the MGH Arena team, supporting the delivery of therapeutic riding, recreational riding, hippotherapy, equine-assisted learning, and groundwork classes for AIDB students. This role assists instructors during lessons, helps care for the herd and maintain the barn, and supports safety and readiness in all sessions. In addition, the aide may help with training and mentoring student workers and volunteers, assist with special events, and contribute to the daily operations of the program in alignment with PATH International standards.

ABOUT YOU

You will play a meaningful role in the lives of our students by supporting recreational equine programs at MGH Arena. You will be part of the everyday miracles that happen through the power of equine-assisted services. With a positive, professional, and approachable demeanor, you will engage with students, staff, families, and volunteers, serving as a supportive and welcoming presence. You should be able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a dedicated and compassionate team.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one (1) year of equestrian-related work experience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, families, and other AIDB departments.
  • Basic computer literacy and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with individuals who are Blind, have low vision, are Deaf, hard of hearing, or DeafBlind is preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience assisting in therapeutic riding or equine-assisted activities.
  • Familiarity with PATH International standards and practices.
  • Prior work or volunteer experience in educational or special needs settings.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead or support group activities involving students and volunteers.
  • Basic knowledge of horse care, grooming, and barn maintenance.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including after school and occasional weekends.
  • Assist instructors with various equine-assisted classes and activities.
  • Support and participate in special events as needed.
  • Help maintain clean and safe barn conditions, including stall cleaning and general upkeep.
  • Feed and water the horses according to established schedules.
  • Provide support with reports and other documentation when requested.
  • Attend relevant meetings, workshops, and seminars to stay current with best practices in therapeutic riding and equine-assisted activities.
  • Assist with scheduling classes such as ground lessons, hippotherapy, therapeutic riding, equine-facilitated learning (EFL), and recreational riding in coordination with AIDB campuses.
  • Help coordinate and/or provide instruction for all classes, including barn safety protocols.
  • Support accurate maintenance of class records and documentation.
  • Assist with organizing and supervising activities for students, student workers, and volunteers involved in the Special Equestrian Program.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the MGH Instructional Team and help with training and exercising program horses.
  • Must achieve a sign language proficiency level of
SURVIVAL

according to the AIDB evaluation system within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
