ABOUT OUR LOCATION
The Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind North Campus is located in Decatur, Alabama. The campus occupies a beautiful location that sits on Highway 31 in South Decatur. This is a recently created campus that is already home to a number of AIDB departments and staff. The expansion of programs in Decatur creates new opportunities for us to serve the local communities.
ABOUT THE ROLE RISE
Autism is a program uniquely designed for students and individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Sensory Loss. RISE, which stands for Reaching Independence through Supported Education, utilizes evidence-based strategies to develop skills that lead to greater independence. These skills include communication, social interaction, academic, and independence.
ABOUT YOU
As a Teacher Aide in the RISE Together Preschool program, you will support the Preschool Teacher in creating a nurturing and enriching learning environment for young children. Your role involves implementing a high-quality educational program that meets Alabama’s standards, collaborating with team members to ensure a safe and engaging learning environment.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience working with children in a preschool, kindergarten, or childcare setting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field. Possess a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
. Assist the Teacher in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities that promote children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. Provide attentive supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times. Assist with daily routines, including meals, nap time, and toileting, as needed. Must assist in maintaining a positive and organized classroom environment conducive to learning, including assisting with managing behavior effectively, and encouraging positive social interactions among children. Must establish and maintain strong rapport with employees, administrators, and families. Must work closely with the Teacher to provide individualized support to children with diverse needs, including those with disabilities or special requirements. Implement accommodations and modifications as necessary to ensure all children can fully participate in classroom activities. Assist in maintaining accurate records and documentation related to children’s attendance, development, assessments, and other pertinent information, ensuring compliance with licensing regulations and program requirements. Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in early childhood education, child development, and best practices for teaching young children. Follow all health and safety protocols and procedures, taking proactive measures to prevent accidents and ensure a clean and hygienic classroom environment. Contribute to the ongoing assessment and evaluation of the program’s effectiveness by participating in program reviews, self-assessments, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance program quality and outcomes. Adequate physical mobility including, but not limited to, performing the following functions in support of students and necessary curriculum: toileting, diapering or changing clothing, personal hygiene functions, feeding, transitioning students in wheelchairs or lifts, care and cleaning of equipment, facilitating recreational activities, and others specified by the Teacher or Coordinator.
