Temporary Program Assistant, Wesleyan Science Camp 4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 45 Wyllys Ave, Middletown, CT 06459 Wesleyan Science Camp engages a cohort of high school students with demonstrated interests in science. The Program Assistants play a critical role in supporting science camp programming and serve as role models for participants in grades 4-6. In doing so, Program Assistants develop essential career readiness skills, further develop content knowledge and skills, and benefit from the mentoring of Wesleyan graduate students and faculty. Wesleyan Science Camp employs an intergenerational mentoring model. The program’s staff is comprised of Wesleyan University faculty members from the chemistry, physics, astronomy, and biology departments, college student assistants, and aspiring high school scientists – who all work in collaboration to develop the next generation of innovative leaders in fields of science in a safe and nurturing space. Program Assistants are expected to be available: During camp hours, 8:30-4:00 pm, August 4-8 at Beman Middle School, Middletown During a Science Showcase, 4 -5 pm, August 8 For several hours of training and professional development, August 1
Primary Responsibilities:
Organize daily morning meeting activities. Collaborate with lead and assistant teachers to implement science activities. Facilitate positive group management. Provide small group support to camp participants during educational activities. Build strong, trusting relationships with program participants. Participate in training and professional development sessions as required. Collaborate with a cohort of Program Assistants to present on critical learnings during community sharing. Other duties as assigned. This is an on-campus position. The position works up to up to 37.5 hours during the week of camp – August 4-8, 2025.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated understanding of the importance of mentoring Ability to be organized and multi-task Interest in pursuing a career in education and/or
STEM PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working with children Experience with afterschool programs or summer camps STEM extracurricular experience
