Greenwich Public Schools seeks full-time (35 hours/week, school year) professional assistants (paraeducators) across all grade levels in the Greenwich Public Schools. Professional assistants provide instructional support to students in small groups and one-to-one settings under the direction of a certified teacher. An updated collective bargaining agreement provides competitive salary and benefits.
Essential Functions
Effectively implements instructional plans by:
communicating clearly and respectfully.
actively encouraging student participation in decision making and task planning.
explaining classroom activities and routines.
encouraging student participation in activities.
encouraging an appropriate level of independence.
Provides feedback on student performance.
Supports program implementation of goals and objective by:
following behavioral intervention plans.
participating in program development.
following classroom routines.
implements teacher’s instructional plans.
Participates in team planning activities as needed.
Maintains strict confidentiality of students and families.
Refers questions from family members to supervising staff as appropriate.
Proactively prepares to fulfill his/her responsibilities by gathering necessary materials/resources before the school day begins.
Provides for the physical needs of students including lifting and toileting; using mechanical lift equipment and transfer aids as needed.
Attends in-services and other training as required.
Performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrates knowledge in the areas of reading, writing, and math.
Demonstrates understanding of students’ individualized education plans (IEPs) and individual student needs including implications of disabilities on student performance and behavior.
Knowledge of proper body mechanics. Ability to multi-task and to perform a variety of functions in a fast-paced public setting.
Communicates effectively with staff including the ability to express concerns appropriately.
Follows recommendations and directions efficiently and effectively.
Asks for clarification when needed.
Physical ability to perform the functions of the job and complete the tasks.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Follows policies and procedures set forth by the school district.
Ability to use good judgement.
Assists colleagues in a positive manner.
Additional Duties
Some positions may require regular lifting and physical support of students who weigh more than fifty (50) pounds. Equipment
Use of district-issued digital tools.
Qualifications Profile
Professional assistants must possess an Associate’s Degree, a passing score on the ParaPro Competency Exam, or equivalent experience. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply.
