Child Care and Safety:

An Infant Assistant Teacher is responsible for supporting the lead teacher in the care and development of infants, typically within a daycare, preschool, or early childhood education setting. The role involves assisting in various tasks related to child care, early learning, and maintaining a safe, nurturing environment.

Infant Assistant Teacher Job Overview:

The Infant Assistant Teacher assists the lead teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for infants (ages 6 weeks to 12 months). The primary responsibility is to support the infants’ developmental needs through age-appropriate activities, feeding, diapering, and monitoring, while also ensuring that safety protocols and policies are followed.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide attentive care to infants, ensuring their health, safety, and comfort. Monitor and assess the needs of each infant, including feeding, diapering, and comfort. Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment at all times. Follow safety protocols, including handling and securing infants appropriately in cribs, highchairs, and play areas.

Developmental Support:

Assist in planning and implementing age-appropriate activities and experiences that promote physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development. Support the development of motor skills, sensory experiences, and early social interaction through hands-on play. Encourage infants’ exploration and provide opportunities for sensory and cognitive stimulation.

Feeding and Diapering:

Assist with bottle feeding and/or table feeding as necessary. Change diapers and ensure proper hygiene practices. Track and record feeding and diapering schedules, as well as any significant changes in behavior or health.

Parent Communication:

Maintain open communication with parents or guardians about their infant’s daily activities, well-being, and developmental progress. Provide regular updates on each child’s behavior, development, and needs.

Classroom Management:

Assist with maintaining classroom order and organization. Ensure that all toys and equipment are sanitized regularly and safe for use. Help with setting up and cleaning up after activities and meals.

Collaborative Support:

Work closely with the lead teacher and other staff members to ensure consistent care and an enriching learning environment. Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to the development of lesson plans and classroom activities. Follow all classroom policies and procedures as outlined by the school or childcare center.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent (associate’s degree in early childhood education or a related field preferred). Previous experience working with infants or in a childcare setting is preferred. CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain certification). Strong communication skills and ability to interact positively with children, parents, and team members. Patience, compassion, and a nurturing attitude toward infants. Ability to lift and carry infants, as well as bend and kneel to assist in various activities. Knowledge of child development and safety practices. 45 DCF Training hours completed (or willing to complete within 6 months)-preference will be given to those with hours completed already.

Working Conditions:

The work environment is fast-paced, and staff members must be flexible, patient, and responsive to the needs of the infants and their families. Hours either 8:30a-5:30p or 9a-6p

$13.75 – $15.00 per hour
