Full Job Description Public Charter School Teacher’s Assistant Summary:

May be assigned to a specific grade level, subject areas across grade levels, a team of teachers or to any combination of these or other assignments as determined by the school principal. Duties include assisting with small group instruction, assisting students and teachers using and scheduling use of library and technology assets, assisting in non-instructional duties like recess, PE, breakfast and/or lunch detail. Work is performed under the general supervision of the principal and/or the direction of a member of the instructional staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
NOTE:

The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.  Assist with clerical duties related to classroom instruction, including the preparation of planned instructional materials.  Assist in attendance reports, class reports, and projects.  Participate in job related training.  Train as needed for assisting with medical procedures, as stated in Florida Statues.  Assist in the maintenance of supplies and equipment.  Assist in the safety and supervision of students to include safety drills.  Assist students as assigned in personal hygiene, including lice checks and mobility skills.  Perform related duties as assigned.  Serve as a substitute teacher in the absence of the regular classroom teacher as needed and if qualified as determined by the Principal.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

M-Medium Work

  • Required to push, pull or lift 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

Sitting Resting with the body supported by the buttocks or thighs. Standing Assuming an upright position on the feet particularly for sustained periods of time. Walking Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances. Climbing Ascending or descending stairs, ramps, etc. Using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Balancing Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or moving surfaces. Bending Lowering the body forward from the waist. Stooping Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist through the use of the lower extremities and back muscles. Kneeling Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. Crouching Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine. Crawling Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet. Twisting Moving body from the waist using a turning motion. Reaching Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Grasping Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. Repetitive Motion Substantial and continuous movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Hearing Acuity The ability to perceive speech and other environmental sounds at normal loudness levels. Visual Acuity The power to see at a level which allows reading of numbers and text, operation of equipment, inspection of machines, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors/Outdoors The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. Heat

  • The worker may be subject to temperatures above 90 degrees for periods of more than one hour. Noise
  • The worker is subject to noise.

There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to be heard above the ambient noise level.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High school graduate or equivalency diploma. Associate Degree or a minimum of 60 hours of college level work from an accredited college or university or passed a state approved assessment test. Experience
  • Three (3) years of verifiable experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience that is deemed equal or superior to the foregoing requirements. Computer Skills
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of use of current technology, as required for the position.
