The lead teacher position is responsible for the education of the children, and reports to the Director, Assistant Director, or Center Manager. The lead teacher will be responsible for health checks did first thing in the morning, attendance, and if needed make sure everything is recorded first thing in the morning. Weekly lesson plans are turned in to the Director two weeks in advance. The lead teacher will participate in parent communications, face-to-face conversations, and parent involvement activities. The lead teacher develops both long-and short-term lesson plans based on the curriculum and philosophy of the childcare center. While a childcare lead teacher doesn’t give children grades, she does assess their developmental growth. She maintains a record of that growth and keeps parents up to date – communicating with parents is a routine part of the teacher’s job. The lead teacher is also responsible for setting up her classroom to reflect on the lessons she is currently teaching. The lead teacher must be observant about the health and safety of her children. A high school diploma and forty-five (45) hours, CDA are beneficial in this role, and consisting of Childcare Facility Training are required. Assistant Teacher The Teacher Assistant will observe and shadow the Lead Teacher. A teacher’s aide, or teacher assistant, is an asset to any classroom. She can offer hands-on help to students and help to monitor their progress. Assistants engage children in a variety of activities that are developmentally appropriate and look out for each child’s well-being. The Assistant inspects the children’s environment to ensure the safety of equipment and materials. She removes or repairs any items that pose a threat to the children. She also fosters a safe and comfortable environment through clear, positive, and encouraging words and actions to help the children feel comfortable and confident within their surroundings. A high school diploma, forty-five (45) hours, a CDA are beneficial in this role, and consisting of Childcare Facility Training are required.
