JOB DESCRIPTION JOB GOAL
To assist four (4) year-olds in educationally sound learning experiences associated with a Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten Program (VPK) within the early childhood education learning laboratory at the high schools and Manatee Technical College (MTC).
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent. Hold current CDA Certification or equivalent. Must be at least 19 years of age to work with elementary students and 20 years of age to work with middle and high school students. Clearance of background check and drug screening.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of child growth and development of the four (4) year old. Some understanding of various exceptionalities. Possess good organizational skills. Ability to prioritize functions and manage time wisely. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to sit with and lift VPK students in an emergency situation. Ability to communicate with school based personnel, parents and the public.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES WHEN WORKING WITH A CERTIFIED EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION TEACHER
Assist in the supervision of students (high school and preschool) on campus as well as in the classroom. Work with students in groups and/or individually as directed by the teacher. Grade, record and distribute papers as directed. Escort students in learning activities to other areas of the building. Distribute supplies and other materials at the direction of the teacher. Operate equipment for videos, movies and other media used by the teacher. Assist new students in adjusting to their new environment. Assist with class / student projects. Assist with the distribution of written materials to parents. Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities. Provide for a safe and secure workplace. Model and maintain high ethical standards. Follow attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules. Maintain confidentiality regarding school matters. Maintain positive relationships with staff, parents and students. Participate in workshops and training sessions as required. Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events. Respond to inquiries or concerns in a timely manner. Follow all School Board policies, rules and regulations. Prepare all required reports and maintain all appropriate records. Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member. Demonstrate support for the School District and its goals and priorities. Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
