The duties and responsibilities will be carried out under the direction of the Lead Teacher. Essential Functions 1. Assist directors in maintenance and implementation of a developmentally appropriate and strong moral and creative educational program. 2. Assists Lead Teacher in maintaining records on each child’s progress and development for the purpose of planning and compliance with

GELDS. 3.

Responsible for assisting the teacher with the full implementation GELDS, BFTS and Quality Rated performance standards, policies and procedures, regulations and guidelines in the day-to-day operation of the Center. 4. Assists with the planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate practices, lesson plans and general classroom management. 5. Participates in staff meetings, center activities, and staff development. 6. Assists Lead Teacher in reviewing the progress of each child and developing written plans to promote each child’s growth and development. 7. Maintains a well-organized, safe and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children. 8. Develops a positive relationship with each child and promote the development 9. of self-esteem and self-discipline. 10. Observes each child daily to assess skills, interests, and needs and uses this information to facilitate learning and growth. 11. Establishes a positive relationship with each child’s family and shares information about the child’s day at the Center through approved communication tools. 12. Assists the teacher in conducting staff/parent conferences. 13. Assists teacher in the full implementation of individualized plans and the inclusion of children with disabilities and special needs. 14. Responsible for assisting Center Director and teacher in implementing parent involvement activities. 15. Performs other duties as required or assigned. CDA or 90 classroom hours in Early Childhood Education is preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of one (1) year experience in a childcare setting. Must possess demonstrated experience and interest in working with young children, parents, and volunteers. Knowledge of the challenges and strengths of working in a diverse educational environment. Effective oral and written communication skills commensurate with the responsibilities of the position are required.

Additional Requirements:

Must demonstrate a strong knowledge of appropriate practices in early childhood development including working with parents. Must be able to comply with background check, including fingerprints, as required by the BFTS. Successful experience working as an effective member of a team. Ability to present a positive image of the organization to members of the community. Must be free of communicable diseases and breathing impairments. Must demonstrate success in working as a team member, have effective communication skills and be willing to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the program. Ability to learn and comprehend information from Procedures Manuals and other materials. Ability to make decisions on behalf of children and protect their well-being. Must be able to manage confidential information. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and in case of emergency a 40-pound child. Therefore, each employee must at all times be emotionally stable and able to function effectively with children, adolescents and adults who may have mental or behavioral health problems. The staff must be able to demonstrate appropriate daily behavior, appropriate expression of emotions, as well as appropriate role modeling. Hostility, aggression and unnecessary or inappropriate physical actions as well as inappropriate emotional expression are not acceptable. Must obtain all annual training as required by Center, BFTS, Quality Rated, State and Federal Guidelines.

Working Conditions:

Tasks that involve frequent possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids or tissues. Tasks that involve handling instruments or utensils, use of public or shared bathroom facilities or telephones and personal contacts. Possible exposure to communicable diseases. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to: 1. Frequently walks, uses hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and talks or hears. 2. Often required to stand and sit; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat or crawl. 3. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and in case of emergency a 40 pound child. 4. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 5.
