The GLOBE Academy is a K-8 charter school on two campuses that opened in 2013 and fosters Global Learning Opportunities through Balanced Education, serving students from all over DeKalb County, GA. With a focus on dual-language immersion, an experiential-learning model and a constructivist approach, GLOBE inspires students to be high-performing lifelong learners equipped to make a positive impact in the world. Language support assistants should be comfortable helping and supporting language use with small groups of students and individual support across various classrooms K-5. Language support assistants should have a solid understanding of supporting and facilitating second language acquisition and assisting the lead teacher in teaching small to large groups of students within an experiential learning model. GLOBE language teachers and assistants encourage the use of 100% target language between students. Language Support Assistants also maintain 100% target language when interacting with students.   • Patience and ability to work with diverse groups of students using proficiency-oriented / oral production games and activities to help support meaningful and successful language learning experiences.
  • Classroom support working with individual students and small groups for support in mathematics, science, writing, and reading.
  • Supervision duties as assigned
  • Creation of materials only for specific students
  • Data tracking of student progress
  • Participation in school wide meetings, bi-weekly Director meetings, and LSA meetings Qualifications
  • Advanced proficiency to speak, read, and write in the target language at a professional level.
  • Additional endorsements/certifications (Early Childhood, Gifted, ESOL, SIOP, Special Education, Responsive Classroom, Experiential learning, ACTFL, P-12 Language) are a plus, and preference will be given to such candidates who meet other important criteria and will be a cultural fit with the school.
  • Self-starter – someone who is organized, quickly gets started, and knows how to take initiative. LSAs should be comfortable working in collaboration with lead teachers, and sometimes taking direction from lead teachers about specific goals for specific students needing support.
  • Ability to function as a collaborative member across grade-level teams, language track, school program.
  • High School diploma required.
  • Associate degree preferred.
  • 1 year’s experience working with children preferred.
