  • 182 Day position
Job Goal:

To assist the teacher in maintaining appropriate classroom activities and environment in order that students may learn effectively.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. High school diploma or GED equivalent.2. Demonstrated aptitude for work to be performed.3. Have at least two years of study (60 semester hours or 100 quarter hours) above the remedial level with a grade of C or better at a professional Standards Commission approved accredited institute of higher education; or4. Earned an associate degree or higher or5. Passed the State approved paraprofessional exam.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prompt and regular attendance
  • Assists teachers with in-person instruction, classroom organization, management and instructional strategies
  • Assists teachers with the clerical duties, grading papers, preparing materials, typing and/or reproducing documents and preparing bulletin boards
  • Communicates effectively with teachers and other staff
  • Works with individual students and/or small groups to reinforce skills taught by teacher
  • Assists during standardized testing to support state and local processes and policies
  • Monitors students movement throughout the building to other classrooms, learning areas and cafeteria
  • Supervises groups or individuals at times when the principal deems it necessary for the teacher to be in a professional meeting or at other times designated by the principal
  • Assists students with classroom and cafeteria clean up and wiping down surfaces to uphold sanitation standards for a safe school environment
  • Accompanies groups on field trips under the supervision of the teacher when such trips are authorized for educational purposes
  • Assists with multi-media equipment
  • Secures books or other instructional materials from the school library under the direction of the teacher
  • Assists in supervising pupils before, during, and after school
  • Maintains the confidentiality of all student records, reports, and other documentation
  • Engages in professional learning opportunities in-person
  • Assist students with health care procedures including hygiene and daily care
  • Assist students with physical needs including but not limited to feeding, toileting, repositioning, and mobility as needed
  • Performs such other assignments and duties as assigned by the supervisor and

Able to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities including:

Medium Work:

Exerting 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds as needed to move objects.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the principal in accordance with the provisions of the Boards policy on classified evaluation.
