JOB SUMMARY
Assists the Lead Teacher with planning, organizing, and providing a comprehensive therapeutic childcare program to children with and without special needs to enhance their development in reaching their maximum potential. Conducts daily activities to facilitate individual learning experiences which assist in the child’s development as identified in the Individual Support Plan (ISP) or Plan of Care (POC) and with the program design. Works collaboratively with ESWG’s administration and other staff to ensure all aspects of the program development and delivery are consistent with ESWG’s mission.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assists with implementing the Individual Service Plan (ISP)/Plan of Care (POC) for children in assigned classroom under the instruction of the Lead Teacher, Children’s Director, Assessment Specialist, VP of Programs and Services, and/or appropriate therapist(s). 2. Promotes and implements activities which include curriculum appropriate educational experiences. These activities will include a variety of materials in the fields of art, music, literature, science, nature, mathematics, and quiet activities. 3. Supervises children to ensure safety at all times following established safety standards. 4. Provides participants assistance and instruction with personal care including feeding, grooming and toileting. 5. Advises Children’s Director, VP of Programs and Services, or classroom Lead Teacher of any irregularities or changes observed in a child’s appearance and/or behavior. 6. Assists the children to develop good nutritional habits. 7. Assists with maintaining all assigned documentation and participant records. Tracks changes relevant to goals and objectives. 8. Notifies supervisor of supplies needed before depletion, in-house maintenance required, or equipment needing repair. 9. Attends in-service training to maintain and increase knowledge and skills in the fields of special education, rehabilitation, early intervention, and early childhood development. Successfully completes at least 20 hours of relevant training per year. Maintains current First Aid and CPR certification. 10. Reports any evidence of child abuse and/or neglect immediately to Children’s Director or a member of the Administrative Team (President/ CEO, VP of Programs and Services, Adult or Children’s Director and Nurse/Safety Director). 11. Greets parents, visitors and volunteers to ensure a welcoming and warm environment. 13. Adheres to all ESWG’s policies/ procedures, and appropriate licensing, certification and accreditation standards. 14. Maintains effective and co-operative work relations with others. 15. Attends staff meetings as required. 16. Performs routine housekeeping duties to keep assigned room, facility, and outdoor areas clean and neat. 17. Performs other duties as assigned by the Directors.
WORKING EXPECTATIONS
- Participants are supervised at all times. Under no circumstances are participants to be left unattended.
- Staff will always exercise professionalism in the presence of participants, visitors and other staff.
- Staff will ensure that all activities and conversations are always geared toward what is appropriate.
- In addition to the indoor program, staff will tolerate an outdoor work environment inclusive of a variety of weather conditions.
To ensure quality of services provided, staff are expected to receive a rating of 20 (meets expectation) or higher on all performance reviews. Scoring under 20 will result in the staff member being placed on a 1-3 month probation until the level of quality is improved or termination may result.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. High School Diploma or GED required. 2. Has education or experience working with children and/or adults in a rehabilitation, educational or child care facility preferred. 3. Good interpersonal skills with children and adults required. 4. Obtain fingerprint criminal background check clearance. 5. Communicate well orally and in writing. 6. Interpret and carry out written or oral instructions.
