For more information, visit www.gardereschool.com GCCS PreK Assistant Teacher Characteristics A Bachelor’s degree and CDA is required for PK4 assistant. Ability to tackle many responsibilities and be flexible to change. Excellent classroom management skills, promotes positive student interaction, and is engaged in each student’s well-being. Understands and embraces the whole child educational philosophy including the development of social-emotional skills, character development, and the arts. Demonstrates empathy and compassion towards students and their families. Ability to communicate effectively with families, colleagues, and administration. Completes tasks and responsibilities with a positive, diligent, and professional attitude. Exhibits effective time management. Follows assigned curriculum and scope and sequences while meeting the needs of students through creative and energetic lessons. GCCS Early Childhood Teacher Responsibilities Before students arrive, assist the teacher in making sure the classroom is ready for the day. (Help in getting crafts, copies, and centers ready for the day following the guidance of the lead teacher and lesson plan.) When the lead teacher is in the carpool rotation, greet students at the door, have them unpack, use the restroom, and begin morning play When the lead teacher is not the the carpool rotation, greet students at the door, have them unpack, and begin morning play while the lead teacher is working with the students Follow the Frog Street scope and sequence while meeting student needs and interests Assist the lead teacher in creating and preparing centers that are standard align and age- appropriate Keep personal classroom areas tidy and clean Assist during lessons and centers; work with students as the lead teacher is working with other students. Follow behavior management plan set by the lead teacher and school Organize materials ordered for lessons and centers Meet with the lead teacher weekly to discuss the week’s lessons, centers, crafts, and events. With the lead teacher’s support, assistant teacher can create centers, crafts, and activities. Planning ahead is key. Discuss ideas for the next week during weekly meetings. Monitor and participate in outdoor playtime Put students down for a nap. At the end of the day, put together the folder. If comments need to be made on the conduct report, refer to the lead teacher for guidance. The assistant teacher can make comments on the sheet, as long as the lead teacher is aware of the incident and comment. Participate in biweekly PLC meetings and earn additional PD hours from different resources. 18 hours are required by the end of the year. PLC’s count towards those hours. Read and respond to weekly emails. Daily Additional Information 7:45-8:25 Planning 3:30-3:50 Clean up and prep for the next day As a member of the GCCS team, the PreK Assistant Teacher will serve as a representative of the school at all times, while demonstrating core values aligned with our mission and vision for the school as a whole. The teacher must be reflective individuals with excellent communication skills. The Teacher should demonstrate authenticity, genuine compassion, and respect when working with the GCCS community.
