Job Description
SMEC is seeking a strong and diverse pool of applicants for the position of RBT Paraprofessional for the 2025-2026 school year. The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) will work collaboratively with teachers, BCBAs and other support staff to implement behavior support plans for students who require consistent and significant behavioral support throughout the day. The ideal candidate is able to understand and apply principles of ABA in classroom settings, informally assess student needs and implement interventions and collect and submit data to the the BCBA for analysis.
This is a School Year Position (184 days) plus a 5 week part-time summer program. Benefits Eligible (Health, Dental, Life Insurances, 457b/403b). This position qualifies for the Massachusetts State Employees’ Retirement System (MSERS). Local travel between programs is required to support students at different school buildings.
Registered Behavior Technician certification. Minimum of an Associate degree/equivalent or passing ParaPro test

  • score required. Ability and willingness to achieve a 7D license. Experience working with students with special needs and medical needs. Formal training in theories of ABA or Behavioral Support Interventions strongly preferred.

Essential Duties:
  • Understand and apply the basic principles of ABA in classroom settings as directed.
  • Informally assess student needs and provide interventions to redirect behavior.
  • Collect and submit data needed for Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Implement Behavior Intervention plans to affect behavior changes.
  • Regularly review, and remain well-versed in a multitude of BIPs in order to implement the plans and monitor plans for multiple students at the same time.
  • Provide direct consultation to the BCBA, specific to analysis of data and recommendations for modifications or revision to BIPs.
  • Model implementation of BIPs, as directed by the BCBA, for Paraprofessionals and staff.
  • Maintains a culturally inclusive, purposeful, respectful, and stimulating classroom environment that is organized and positive in nature and geared towards student needs and interests.
  • Follows schedule as assigned including reassignments to different program locations as needed.
  • Develops awareness of inclusion procedures within the host school and maintains positive relationships and ongoing communication with the administrators and receiving teachers within host school.
  • Prepares for, attends, and fully participates in staff meetings, and student meetings if requested to do so by administration.
  • Demonstrates ongoing professional growth and skills consistent with current research and practice in education through in-services, coursework, evaluations, and online courses.
  • Drives program vans as needed for community activities.
  • Accurately completes documentation related to student incidents/injuries, physical intervention, and 51A reports and/or DPPC under the guidance of teacher and/or administration.
  • Complete all expected paperwork in a high quality manner within mandated/required timelines.
  • Shows respect and compassion for all members of the classroom and school environment including students, families, staff, and other community members.
  • Implements all aspects of the educational day, which may include activities of daily living (ADL’s) such as toileting, feeding, transferring, self-care, and assistance with mobility including lifting.
  • Effectively utilizes any recommended adaptive equipment for individual students.
  • Participates in all required Collaborative in-services as well as those recommended by supervisors.
  • Communicate all significant occurrences to the appropriate supervisor in a respectful and timely manner.
  • Shares in the overall everyday activities necessary for operation of the program (inventorying, ordering, tracking as necessary, suggestions for program improvement, etc.)
  • Maintains an open, honest, and respectful relationship with parents and others involved with the student’s success.
  • Maintains professional boundaries with parents and students.
  • Physical ability to perform physical restraints/escorts as needed.
  • Expected to read and adhere to all Employee Handbook policies.
