school year full-time positionStart date: Aug 22, 2025Dearborn Academy, one of New Englands leading 766-approved therapeutic day schools, is seeking a full-time Assistant Teacher. Dearborn enrolls students in Grades 3-12 who have specific learning disabilities and social and emotional challenges. Our rich academic program allows students who have been unsuccessful in previous school settings to achieve substantial gains. Our program additionally includes a wide range of special classes such as music, art, woodworking/jewelry/metalworking and diversified student support and explicit instruction all combined with our strong clinical component. The Assistant Teacher works closely with Head Teachers to assist in the planning/delivery of classroom instruction and the monitoring/documentation of student progress, in addition to providing students with the support they need to be successful in both the classroom and in the milieu. The Assistant Teacher is assigned to both academic classes and specials, as well as homeroom and enrichment classes throughout the day. The successful candidate for this challenging and rewarding position will have thefollowing qualities and experience:

  • Demonstrated compassion and kindness towards students, families and staff
  • Belief that students who demonstrate unexpected behaviors have gaps in their skills, with a drive to identify these gaps and then teach to the skill areas to address these gaps
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively as a team
  • Demonstrated experience working successfully with students in grades 3-12
  • Demonstrated desire to pursue a career in the education or clinical field
Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree requiredExperience working with elementary/middle school and/or high school students (grades 3-12) requiredExperience working with students with moderate disabilities preferredDearborn provides a supportive team environment with a competitive wage/benefit program.
