Job Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Support:
  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
  • Provide one-on-one support or small group instruction for students, reinforcing lesson plans and teaching strategies.
  • Help students with academic tasks, ensuring they understand assignments and complete work to the best of their ability.
  • Support students with behavior management, following specific strategies outlined in their IEPs and maintaining a positive, structured environment.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of social skills training and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Encourage student participation and engagement in classroom activities and promote independence.
Classroom Environment:
  • Help set up, organize, and maintain classroom materials and resources.
  • Support classroom routines, including transitions between activities, ensuring smooth operation of the classroom throughout the day.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive classroom environment, ensuring that students are comfortable, supported, and engaged.
  • Assist with managing behavior in the classroom, following individual behavior plans and providing redirection as needed.
Collaboration & Communication:
  • Communicate regularly with the lead teacher to monitor student progress and provide feedback on their needs and achievements.
  • Work with other support staff, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, and counselors, to coordinate care and support for students.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, data collection, behavior, and any incidents that occur in the classroom.
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development sessions to stay informed on best practices in special education and classroom management.

Other Duties as

Assigned:
  • Assist with monitoring students during lunch or other non-classroom settings as needed.
  • Perform other tasks that support the teacher and students, as directed
