  • Mental Health Assistant Paraprofessional
  • Shifts:
  • 8Am-4PM Monday through Friday (may change depending on needs) (may also be required to work during days at residence as determined by scheduling and staffing needs)

  • The MHA Paraprofessional is responsible for various duties including, but not limited to, assisting the teacher in individual and group instruction, assisting with the daily living skills, and personal care instruction to students under the direct supervision of the education teacher to whom they report.
Education/Work History Requirements:

Instructional Paraprofessionals are not required to be licensed in the commonwealth.

The minimum requirements to be employed in this role are:

Possession of an associate’s degree (or higher) OR one of the following:

  • Completion of at least two years or 48 credit hours of study at an institution of higher education.
  • An assessment by the director or assistant director of education measuring one’s knowledge of and ability to assist classroom teachers in reading, writing and mathematics.
  • Teaching/Instructing experience and demonstrated competency to be determined by Special Education Director or Assistant Director of Education.
Essential Duties of Position:

1. Provide one on one support academic, vocational, daily living and behavioral support for students.2. Assist in the education and social development of the students under the direction and guidance of the classroom teacher.3. Assist the teacher and Teacher’s Assistant with classroom management and organization to include material and academic task preparation, copying items to support teaching, and assisting in preparing and displaying student work.4. Is responsible to the safety and wellness of the JRC students.5. When required, attend meeting held by the Special Education Director or their designee.6. Assist with transport of students to and from medical appointments when asked.7. Assist in loading and unloading vans and busses in the morning and afternoon.8. Participate in at least 2 hours per month of in-service training.

Uses computer for Word Processing.

Follows students’ behavioral program as written in the treatment plan and arranges appropriate consequences.

Knows state/federal regulations for disabled persons.

Reacts to student’s inappropriate behaviors in a calm, detached and assertive manner.

Dresses in a professional appearance and maintains proper demeanor.

Physical Demands of Position:

Possess excellence problem solving, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.

Completes job with moderate supervision.

Communicates clearly and concisely in English.

Can stand or walk for at least 80% of the day.

Can sit for 20% of the day.20/20 vision with corrective lenses.

Valid driver’s license.

Kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, reaching pushing, pulling, and lifting.•
