Program Aide Job Description Qualifications:
General – certified by a licensed physician within 45 days of employment to be in good health including being free from communicable diseases, including tuberculosis. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred Education / Experience – Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Must also have one or more years’ experience working with adults in a health-care or social services setting. Special Qualification – Must be qualified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and basic first aid. Fluency in Spanish Language a big plus. Abilities – In addition to the responsibilities detailed in this job description, the Program Aide must be able to: Demonstrate public relations skills; Understand the needs of the elderly and, in particular, the needs of those affected by cognitive impairments; Be sensitive to the needs of family caregivers; Demonstrate excellent communication skills; Be available to work unscheduled days and hours Make a commitment to cooperative performance to attain care, organization and program objectives which may entail performing duties not included in this job description. Responsibilities of the Program Aide The Program Aide is responsible for providing personal care as directed by the activities director. This also includes assisting with meals, activities and housekeeping functions of the program.
Responsibilities include:
Communication and interpersonal skill; Observation, reporting, and documentation of participant status and the care or service furnished; Basic infection control procedures; Basic delegated nursing and nursing related skills including: Basic elements of body functioning and changes in body function that must be reported to the aide’s supervisor; Obtaining and recording vital signs; Personal care skills including appropriate and safe participant personal hygiene and grooming techniques; Assisting participants at various levels of functioning with ADL; Basic restorative nursing; and Safety and emergency procedures, including the Heimlich maneuver. Maintenance of a clean, safe, and healthy environment; Recognizing, responding to, and reporting emergencies and knowledge of emergency procedures; Recognizing the physical, emotional, and developmental needs of participants and working in a manner that respects participants, their privacy, and their property; Prevention of, and reporting, participant abuse, neglect, mistreatment and misappropriation; and, Caring for participants enrolled at the center and participants with Alzheimer’s disease and related conditions.
