JOBSUMMARY

The Transportation Teaching Assistant is responsible forproviding support with educational lessons and activities toteachers in a classroom setting. This position will assist with thepreparation of classroom materials and/or displays for lessonsplanned and executed by the teacher. The Teacher Assistant willhelp with clerical tasks, enforce classroom rules and providegeneral care and supervision to students. This position may includeleading and monitoring small or large group activities. TheTransportation Teaching Assistant is responsible for transportingCCGC students to and from school.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in the implementation of class lessons, activities, andspecial events as instructed by the teacher or administrators.

Helps maintain the flow of the classroom lessons and activities byorganizing and preparing supplies and materials for student use.

Develops and maintains an awareness of student needs, class rules,class procedures, and instructional materials to anticipate andrespond in the classroom environment. Supervises the class or groupindependently as required and carries out class activities asdirected by the teacher in his/her absence. Provides personalassistance to students as required by their age and developmentallevel. Supervises students during activities outside of theclassroom, including field trips, playground, and cafeteria.

Participates actively in weekly staff meetings and attends groupspecific to professional development. Obtains and maintains CPIcertification. Flexibility and ability to adapt to changingschedules and teacher expectations. Ability to understand complexinstructions and/or assignments given in the oral and written form.

Ability to work cooperatively with all disciplines directly relatedto the day to day function of the school. Responsible for thegeneral housekeeping of the classroom. Conduct pre-trip vehicleinspections to ensure safe operation. Drive transportation route -picking up and dropping off student passengers at establishedstops. Supervise students in route to and from school. Providesupport and guidance to any student requiring behavioralmanagement. Conduct post-trip vehicle inspections. Clean van asnecessary to maintain a professional appearance and positive agencyimage. As required provide transportation for field trips.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be over the age of 18 with a valid CT driver’slicense (more than three years). Must be able to pass DOT physicalexamination and obtain and maintain a V Endorsement CT driver’slicense. Must pass DOT initial drug screening, pre-employment, andrandom DOT drug screens. Bachelor’s in Human Services or relatedfield preferred. Excellent communication skills a must. High Schooldiploma required.
