Sick & personal days are provided in addition to benefits, including retirement contributions. Must hold or be eligible for a Substitute Teaching Certificate through DESE (36 College credit hours required). In lieu of education, candidates may complete 20 hour Frontline Course through DESE and submit to DESE with high school diploma. Candidates may alsopass Para Praxis test through DESE. Experience with children preferred. This position is at Blue Hills Elementary School and works with students to support behavior and academic success. Position reports to building principal. Purpose The job of Paraprofessional – Recovery Room is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for overseeing students referred to the Recovery Room; maintaining a safe and quiet environment; assisting students in assessing their behavior; and providing information to teachers, parents and/or other personnel. Essential Functions Assists students with Recovery Room positive actions (e.g. think sheets, letter of apologies, student success plans, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring actions are completed. Attends meetings (e.g. team, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions. Compiles data for the purpose of preparing reports. Maintains confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic documents, files and records (e.g. time sheets, student success plans, Recovery visits, etc.) for the purpose of providing accurate information in compliance with established administrative guidelines. Monitors students during assigned periods (e.g. Recovery Room, cafeteria, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. Prepares written documents and reports (e.g. monthly and yearly reports, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to teachers, parents, and administration. Provides verbal and/or written feedback of observations for the purpose of informing teacher/s and/or parents of students’ progress. Reports health and safety issues to assigned administrator and appropriate agencies (e.g. fights, suspected child or substance abuse, inappropriate social behaviors, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining students personal safety, a positive learning environment and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines. Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. students, teachers, administrators, and/or parents, etc.) for the purpose of solving problems, providing information and/or directing to other sources Other Functions Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications Responsibility Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; monitoring budget expenditures. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job’s functions. There is some opportunity to effect the organization’s services. Work Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment and in a clean atmosphere.
