This position starts at the end of August 2025. St. Paul’s Preschool & PMO is a ministry of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church that provides quality Christian education that fosters learning and development. Philosophy Our program is based on introducing and teaching Christian values through age appropriate stories, songs and prayer. Each child is treated with respect as a child of God. We provide a play-based developmentally appropriate learning environment for a positive first learning experience away from home. We encourage exploration, independence and imagination through small group gatherings, free choice playtime and individual child-focused instruction. Assistant Preschool Teacher Job Description I. Qualifications a. Must have an associate degree or certificate in education or child related area or a minimum of one-year experience working with young children b. Have specific skills related to preschool responsibilities including: ability to relate to children’s needs and feelings; respect for differences of children in various cultural groups; dependability and consistency in teaching; flexibility and a willingness to learn c. Demonstrate a dedicated and joyful Christian spirit d. Work graciously with all persons including other staff and parents e. Must submit to a background check II. Responsibilities of the Assistant Teacher a. Take direction from the Lead Preschool Teacher and work closely with the Lead Teacher b. Assist Lead Teacher in preparing lessons and materials, help with developmental goal assessment, assist where needed on a daily basis c. In partnership with the
Lead Preschool Teacher:
- Maintain class discipline in a safe environment using skills and powers of Conscious Discipline
- Teach social and emotional skills to children
- Nurture positive self-esteem in each child
- Reinforce daily living skills (washing hands, changing diapers, preparing snack)
- Maintain classroom spaces and materials/supplies d.
Knowledge of and experience with Conscious Discipline preferred e. Attend staff meetings with Preschool Director as scheduled f. Attend at least one continuing education course/workshop per year g. Work is performed in classrooms and designated outdoors spaces, which are part of a large church building and property. Caring for and instructing preschool children can be physically demanding. The environment will occasionally be noisy. A significant portion of the school day will be spent outside. h. The teacher may be lifting and carrying children and equipment frequently, and may spend time sitting on the floor or child-sized furniture daily. The job requires frequent standing, stooping, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds; equipment and/or children, stair climbing and walking. i. The job involves frequent verbal communication with children, family members, staff members, and supervisors. j. The teacher may come in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious, and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children, parents, staff, and themselves. k. Report to work 30 minutes before school opens, stay 30 minutes after school is dismissed. III. Accountability and Staff Relations The Assistant Preschool Teacher is accountable to Preschool Director, the Pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the Congregation Council. The Pastor is the chief personnel officer of the church. IV. Employment Level September-May, with an option for teaching summer camp Monday

- Friday) Hourly rate: $16/hour In first year of employment, an evaluation period of three months will take place with a written review and conference with the preschool director at the end of the evaluation period.
