Description of Work Whitaker PRTF We are currently recruiting for multiple Youth Program / Education Assistant II positions at Whitaker PRTF. The Youth Program / Education Assistant II (YPEA II) provides support and mentoring for YPEA I positions as well as assigning them roles to provide structured activities, appropriate monitoring and documentation practices and is responsible for providing daily supervision and treatment to residents residing in the Whitaker facility in accordance with individualized treatment and behavior management plans.

Job duties include the following:

Implement individual treatment plans for residents, offering appropriate and therapeutic choices and coping skills for residents.
Participation in groups and creating therapeutic relationships with residents.
Provide coaching and mentoring on therapeutic approaches for YPEA I staff.
Creating and implementing structured programming on weekends, 2nd shift, and when school is not in operation on 1st shift.
Work with other unit team members in the implementation of curriculum for the residents assigned to their unit, thhis includes but is not limited to, Clinical groups, Recreational Therapy functions and Nursing groups. There are multiple positions available. These are full-time positions and eligible for the State benefits package including health insurance and retirement. The normal working hours are first shift, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or second shift, 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with alternating weekends and holidays as scheduled. These positions are considered essential to the adverse weather policy which will be discussed during the interview process.

Whitaker’s mission is to provide evidence-based treatment from an inter-disciplinary team to the behaviorally and emotionally disturbed (BEH/BED) youth of North Carolina needing secure residential care through excellence in diagnosis, treatment and education. Ability to establish good working relationships with other paraprofessionals, students and parents.
Knowledge of practical application of task analysis and goal setting with behaviorally and emotionally disturbed clients/patients.
Working knowledge of problems and needs of severely emotional and assaultive clients/patients.
Ability to establish rapport and respect without undue resort to physical control and authoritative attitude.
Physical ability to manage disruptive clients/patients without harm to clients/patients or staff.
Ability to work and plan with clinical staff in assessing child behavior and planning and implementing treatment plans.
Must have valid N.C. driver’s license.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds in order to succeed in necessary training. ADA Physical requirements will be discussed in detail during the interview process but include great physical effort in actively working with the population served at Whitaker PRTF. Mobility is necessary to perform required duties. Must be able to complete and maintain NVCI, APT and CPR certification. Associate’s degree in human services or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related work experience; or High school or General Educational Development diploma and four years of directly related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
