out of 5 stars 3127 Weddington Road, Matthews, NC 28105 Position Summary Reports to: Youth Development Leadership Under the supervision of the Y Scholars Teacher and Youth Program Director , the Assistant Y Scholars Teacher supports the planning, implementation, and facilitation of homeschool lessons for students. This role assists in classroom management, student engagement, and maintaining a safe and structured learning environment while ensuring the program aligns with YMCA values and educational goals. We lead with faith. Essential Functions Assist the Y Scholars Teacher in delivering engaging and developmentally appropriate lessons for homeschool students. Support classroom management by helping to maintain a safe, positive, and structured learning environment. Supervise students during activities, transitions, and breaks, ensuring their well-being and engagement. Provide individualized student support by assisting with activities, answering questions, and reinforcing lesson concepts. Help prepare and organize learning materials, supplies, and equipment needed for daily lessons. Monitor student participation, take attendance, and assist in maintaining accurate records. Encourage social-emotional learning by fostering positive relationships between students and modeling respectful interactions. Assist with classroom setup and cleanup, ensuring an organized and welcoming space. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and YMCA staff, offering support and program updates as needed. Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required training to support program success. Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by leadership Qualifications Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and staff. Ability to assist in lesson facilitation and provide hands-on support to students. Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for working with homeschool students of various ages. Commitment to YMCA values and a passion for fostering a positive learning environment. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team. Basic organizational and time-management skills to assist with materials, schedules, and record-keeping. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical activities such as standing, sitting, and walking throughout the day. All YMCA team members are expected to maintain a current and active status for all safety, risk, and programming certifications defined by the YMCA of Greater Charlotte. Preferred Qualifications Some college coursework in education, child development, or a related field. Prior experience working with children (in a classroom, homeschool, tutoring, or afterschool setting). Working Conditions Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical activities such as standing, sitting, and walking throughout the day. Classroom-based environment with a structured schedule. Frequent interaction with students, families, and YMCA staff in a fast-paced setting. Requires prolonged standing, sitting, and engaging in hands-on activities. May require occasional lifting, bending, and moving of classroom materials. Flexible schedule may include some evenings or special program events. Indoor teaching environment with occasional outdoor activities or field trips. Competencies # Competencies 1 EMOTIONAL
