Job Description

NC Pre-K Teacher Assistant Piedmont Community College (NC) Roxboro, NC 27573 JOB The NC Pre-K Teacher Assistant supports the Lead Teacher in implementing a high-quality educational program aligned with the NC Pre-K Guidelines and Child Care Standards. This role contributes to the growth, development, and safety of preschool children by promoting a nurturing, stimulating, and developmentally appropriate learning environment. The Assistant Teacher helps implement daily classroom routines and wrap-around care services while fostering positive family engagement and ensuring a safe and clean environment.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Essential DutiesSupport the Lead Teacher in planning and carrying out daily activities, both indoors and outdoors.

Supervise children at all times to ensure a safe and engaging environment.

Assist in the preparation and serving of meals and snacks in accordance with health standards.

Establish and maintain positive relationships with children, families, and teaching team members.

Maintain a clean, organized, and child-friendly classroom and center environment.

Demonstrate knowledge of child development, NC Pre-K Program Requirements, and NC Childcare Division Standards.

Ensure compliance with Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS) guidelines.

Fulfill the Lead NC-Pre-k Teacher’s role in their absence, as needed.

Provide support in the before/afterschool programAdditional DutiesPerform duties as assigned by the Center Director in support of program goals and the College’s mission.

Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position has no supervisory responsibilities but may direct children’s activities and support volunteers or student interns under the supervision of the NC Pre-K Lead Teacher or Director.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Institutional CompetenciesFollowing the procedure manuals and the Child Development Center/PCC policiesPossess knowledge of written standards and procedures, and the ability to read, interpret, and follow policy and procedural manuals.

Physical DemandsThis position requires continuous talking or hearing, and frequent standing and walking. Bending, stooping, and lifting materials may be required regularly.

Working ConditionsWork is primarily performed in a classroom and childcare setting. Standard schedule is Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Health and Safety StandardsEmployees must comply with health and safety standards of the Child Development Center/PCC, including NC Childcare background checks and other requirements specific to the childcare environment.
