OR:

b. Is, or has been, a substance abuse professional with 1-2 years of full-time post bachelor’s degree accumulated supervised experience in alcoholism and drug abuse counseling. An AP candidate can have a college degree in other than a human services field and: a. Between 3-4 years of full-time post bachelor’s degree accumulated mental health/developmental disability/substance abuse experience with adults with mental illness.

OR:

b. Is, or has been a substance abuse professional with 3-4 years of full-time post bachelor’s degree accumulated supervised experience in alcoholism and drug abuse counseling. An AP may also be a Registered Nurse (RN) who is licensed to practice in the state of North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing if she/he has less than four years of full-time accumulated experience in mental health, developmental disability, or substance abuse experience with the population served.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform daily case management functions to assist the consumer in developing daily living skills and coping skills. Help clients with various sorts of skill building activities including helping with daily and community living skills, socialization skills, and adaptation skills. Help the client develop leisure time, interests and activities Help teach the client how to self-manage symptoms. Ask clients about symptoms, compliance with medications, and side effects of medications. Provide wellness education and education about substance abuse. Teach skills promoting work readiness Teach clients to adapt to home, school, and current work environments. Assist in managing crises and emergencies, during regular office hours. Help obtain consent from client to be able to contact family members, natural community supports (e.g. members of a church), doctors offices, teachers at a community college, or whoever else significantly interacts with and impacts the client Help assess and reassess whether the client still needs services, though the QP, in consultation with the therapist and medical staff should be actively involved in these decisions. Meet with those of significance in the patient’s life. This can take place by telephone, in person, by Email (if the connection is secure), or by secure Fax. With permission from the patient, meetings can take place without the patient being present. Attend regular “Treatment Team” meetings. Advocate on behalf of the client Inform and help recipient access other community benefits and services, including medical, psychiatric, and therapist appointments. Attend all mandated EPSR monthly meetings, case conferences, and educational seminars. Work cooperatively with all EPSR personnel including administrative staff, paraprofessionals, QP, therapists, and medical staff.

Training:

All AP’s must agree to have a minimum of 20 hours of training specific to the job requirements listed above. This training will include Crisis Response, PC Planning, PC Thinking, and Service Definition training and should occur within the first 90 days of employment. A minimum of 2-5 hours of additional specific population training will be required. In addition, the following trainings are required: a. Certification in CPR and First Aid, NCI Part A. Blood Borne Pathogens, Client Rights.
