As an Instructional Aide, you will provide individualizedsupervision and instruction to assigned students and additionalsupport to the core classroom staff. Working with student(s) toimplement their Individualized Education Programs (IEP), you willutilize group and individual instruction in the classroom andcommunity.

Responsibilities Include:

Assisting classroom teachers to create an atmosphere in whichstudents feel safe, welcomed and exhibit high expectations ofstudent learning. Implementing on-site and community-based curriculum instructionand behavioral intervention strategies consistent with the goalsand objectives of each student. Instructing and monitoring students during lessons in theclassroom to ensure fidelity of instruction and utilizinginstructional strategies to assist with student learning and helpstudents meet requirements for student course completion. Encouraging and monitoring the progress of individual studentsin accordance with specific timelines and communicating with theclassroom teacher overall progress or interventions needed. Managing student behavior by upholding the Spectrum philosophyand policies and applying appropriate disciplinary measures whennecessary; working collaboratively with classroom teachers toensure consistency. Supporting and counseling students with academic issues,providing encouragement and working with students to improve theircommunity, vocational, leisure, domestic, academic, and socialskills. Completing accurate and timely documentation on student’sbehavior as outlined by school procedures, reporting observationsto relevant staff and/or making recommendations based onobservations. Assisting in the preparation of other behavioral reports anddaily activities logs as required. Communicating necessary information to students, team members,supervisors, and parents regarding students’ needs and academicprogress in collaboration with classroom teacher andprincipal. Consistently maintaining the confidentiality of studentinformation and records. Participating in the assurance and accreditation process toensure that the site passes or meets performance plans. Participating in school, student/parent, and student advisorymeetings as requested. Responding constructively to formal and informal feedback. Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

High school diploma or equivalent w/ passage of basic skillstest. Associate degree or higher in education or a closely relatedfield of study preferred. Hold currently or have the ability to obtain a state driver’slicense. Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining aparaprofessional, paraeducator, teaching assistant or similarcredential preferred. Prior experience working with children, preferably in a specialeducation program setting. Highly skilled in working with children with autism spectrumdisorders, developmental disabilities and/or challengingbehaviors. Comfortable driving and/or riding in a company van withstudents before and/or after school. Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency andmake independent decisions. Proficiency in providing motivation and having criticalconversations with students that help move them toward realisticgoals. Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflictresolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-makingability. Knowledge of relevant technology including experience withinstructional technology, Microsoft Office Suite, database entryand basic office equipment.
