About Us:

The Early Learning Center at Temple Israel in Portsmouth, NH, is seeking an enthusiastic and qualified Assistant Teacher to join our team. As we expand our preschool program, we are looking for a dedicated professional to help work with an additional classroom and extended afternoon program. This is a unique opportunity for an educator to grow with our school in a supportive and nurturing environment. Responsibilities Assists the lead teacher in protecting the safety and well-being of the children in the program. Prepare curriculum material as directed. Care and maintenance of the environment Clean and dust the classroom, especially tables and chairs before and after use. Refill supplies. Repair materials as needed. Participate in monthly curriculum changes. Help set up and clean up after each day. Assist children in such a way that allows the Lead Teacher to give lessons without interruption. Give and support lessons to the children only as directed by Lead Teacher. Participate in record-keeping and assessment of children. Assist children in their understanding of the ground rules of the classroom. Assist with playground supervision. Participate in all staff meetings and school functions. Plan objectively for own professional growth, and within categories in NH Childcare Licensing rules. Have significant knowledge of and acceptance of Montessori philosophy and Judaic culture. Other tasks as assigned by the Lead Teacher or school director. Must meet all criteria as directed by NH Childcare Licensing to be considered an assistant teacher.

Required Qualifications:

Holds Lead Teacher or Teacher Qualification according to the State of NH Childcare Licensing. Will meet one or more of the following criteria: 1. Is a first-year teacher holding Montessori certification from a MACTE program, at the 3-6 level. 2. Hold or be working on a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. 3. Hold an associate’s degree in early childhood education, with at least one year of experience in a preschool setting. Compensation Details of compensation will be outlined in the individual’s employee offer letter and based on education and experience. 40 hours per week, 48 weeks a year.
