Position Summary:
The Assistant Teacher works in conjunction with the Lead Montessori Teacher. The Teacher creates a positive learning environment guided by the Montessori philosophies and curriculum. The Teacher addresses each child’s development needs and continues to move them along the developmental continuum. The Teacher is a team player and is enthusiastic while collaborating with colleagues and administration.
Job Specific Responsibilities:
Prepare the environment each day to address the planned activities/curriculum for children ages 6 weeks to 6 years. Utilize careful observation and plan for each child’s developmental strengths and challenges. Maintain a nurturing and patient stature to facilitate a content, calm and positive atmosphere. Assist children with toileting when necessary Communicate well with parents as well as collaborates with colleagues and administration. Helps cover lunch breaks in the classroom including recess. Ensure that all state and local requirements are met for the supervision of the children.
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma Minimum of 1 year experience working with young children, preferably in a Montessori environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field or CDA (Child Development Associate)
Other Considerations:
The teacher must be able to perform light physical work and have the ability to lift and carry children weighting approximately 14 to 30 pounds. The teacher will be required to bend, crouch, lift, kneel and other physical activity as they address the needs of the student (e.g. diaper changing, toileting, cleaning, etc.). The person in this position is responsible for maintaining performance under pressure, and handling stress in a manner that is acceptable to others and to the organization. Hours of Employment:
Monday through Friday – shifts vary (12:00pm to 5:30pm/8:30am to 1:30pm/8:30am to 5:00pm)
