Scarsdale Middle School is seeking talented, experienced, and innovative candidates for a Teaching Assistant (Levels I, II or III) to join our instructional team. In this position, you will work in an 8:1:2 special education class and be responsible for supporting instruction; supervising students; assisting the classroom teacher in designing and implementing lesson plans; preparing lesson material; and supporting students individually, in small groups, and in large groups to support student learning. The school spans grades 6-8, and offer rich and varied educational programs, along with an active, supportive parent body.
The successful candidate must enjoy working with children and be devoted to building a nurturing and safe learning environment. To excel in this role, you must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, possess in-depth knowledge of classroom activities and teaching methods, and be an effective collaborator. Job Responsibilities:

Assist classroom teachers with lesson planning and preparation.
Revise and adapt lessons to address student learning differences.
Assist students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, achievement of IEP objectives, etc.
Participate in the IEP process and serve as a resource for the student evaluation team as needed.
Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.
Assist in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
Assist with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
Overseeing students during non-instructional times including in-between classes, during lunch/recess, and on-field trips.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to recognize issues students are facing and recommend solutions.
Attend training classes, parent conferences, and faculty meetings.

Job Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.
Solid understanding of classroom activities and teaching best practices.
Completion of NYS Teaching Assistant Requirements (Levels I, II, or III)
Must have a compassionate and child centered approach.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Outstanding interpersonal and presentation abilities.
