As anInstructional Aide II , you will provide individualized supervisionand instruction to assigned students and additional support to thecore classroom staff. Working with student(s) to implement theirIndividualized Education Programs (IEP), you will utilize group andindividual instruction in the classroom and community. ?

Responsibilities Include:

Implementing curriculum (including allon-site and community-based instruction) and behavioralintervention strategies consistent with the letter and intent ofthe IEP/ITP (Individual Transition Plan)/ PBIP (Positive BehaviorIntervention Plan) to meet each student’s goals and objectives.

Consulting with supervisor on the progress of students and theimplementation of the IEP/ITP/PBIP, and assisting in transitionplans for integrating the student back to a public school placement(mainstreaming/inclusion) or to an adult program. Writing progressreports, developing and modifying data sheets, and developingcurriculum. Following the classroom schedule which addresses eachstudent’s IEP/ITP goals including community and vocational goals,group instruction, any designated instructional services (DIS)and/or schedule revisions. Completing accurate and timelydocumentation on student’s behavior as outlined by schoolprocedures; reporting observations to relevant staff and makingrecommendations based on observations. Assisting in preparation ofother behavioral reports and daily activities log as required, andmaintaining confidentiality of student information and records atall times. Participating in the data collection process bycollecting, recording, and maintaining data required by studentprograms, classroom records, and data computer systems as assignedby supervisor; and providing input for the development ofFunctional Analyses of Behavior and Positive Behavior InterventionPlans. Performing job coaching duties as assigned, by assisting inthe training of students, on campus or at community job sites inappropriate work behavior and specific employment skills. Keepingsupervisor informed of issues regarding student’s vocational skillsand/or placement. Providing for the basic physical needs ofstudents as needed (e.g. toileting and diapering, ensuring studentsreceive their medications, assisting with feeding students,assisting with hygiene, etc.). Maintaining safety and security ofthe facility through close observation and monitoring of thestudents, maintaining optimal physical proximity, remaining alertat all times, and using analytical forethought to anticipatepotentially volatile or unsafe situations to proactively intervene.

Complying with all company policies/procedures and regulatoryrequirements, and reporting any known or suspected violations tohis/her supervisor or through other means identified in companypolicy. Providing appropriate crisis intervention as necessaryusing the least restrictive method by anticipating and respondingquickly to escalating behaviors, utilizing appropriatede-escalation techniques to diffuse the situation, correctlyprioritizing safety concerns, following proper physical restrainttechniques, and displaying neutral emotions. Meeting school andregulatory training requirements by attending all mandatorymeetings and training sessions as required. Assuring cleanlinessand orderliness of the classroom by assisting in cleaning, filing,and preparing materials and proactively assisting in all security,maintenance, and safety functions as required for the overallfacility. Participating as a team member and promoting a positivework environment by demonstrating cooperation, compromise,appropriate expression of opinion, and by treating others withconsideration, courtesy, and respect. Assisting with other dailyclassroom functions and special assignments as directed; including,but not limited to, substitute teaching. Acting as the primaryinstructor, supervisor and mentor to students and staff when theteacher is absent, including credential communication coverage withfamilies and management of classroom systems as needed. Providingclassroom orientation for new staff per agency guidelines and asdirected by the teacher. Assisting with the planning andpreparation of educational materials and activities and maintainingindividual student data binders and communication devices/books.

Assisting the teacher in managing the classroom budget, records andenvironment. Serving as an aide (also known as a “rider”) toprovide supervision and management of student behavior duringtransportation routes in Spectrum owned vehicles (at applicablecampuses). Providing (at applicable campuses) transportation forstudents by driving a Spectrum owned vehicle with student/s whorequire transportation to and/or from school. This responsibilityrequires an employee provided DMV driving record report. Performingother duties as assigned. ?

Qualifications Required:

Bachelor’sdegree or higher in education or a closely related field of study.

Hold currently or have the ability to obtain an “Emergency 30 DaySub Permit” within 90 days of starting employment. Hold currentlyor have the ability to obtain a valid CA state driver’s license.

Willingness and ability to drive a company van and transportstudents within the community. Minimum 3yr’s prior experienceworking with children in an education and/or classroom setting.

Prior experience working with children with autism, developmentaldisabilities and/or challenging behaviors in a special educationprogram setting preferred. Ability to think and act quickly andcalmly in an emergency situation and make independent decisions.

Solid motivational skills and willingness to be flexible and adaptto changing priorities and new initiatives. Advanced oral andwritten communication, organization, conflict resolution,multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability.

Well-versed in the use of relevant technology including experiencewith computers, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry and basicoffice equipment.
