Education Director SUMMARY:
The Instructional Assistant – Level 1 is assigned specifically to a student or group of Students who regularly need one on one assistance to maintain appropriate and equitable participation in the school setting. The PCA directly supports the students at the direction of the teacher and is under the general supervision of the program supervisor of special education.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Help prepare, collect and set-up materials for student participation, following teacher direction. Assists and performs personal care and self-help/activities of daily living and needs for engagement in the school and learning activities. Provide personal care, such feeding, toileting and self-help/ activities of daily living following teacher direction. Provide instructional, behavioral, or physical assistance to students individually or in small groups at the direction of the teacher to reinforce and follow up instruction. Implement behavior plans and strategies as directed by teachers and Board Certified Behavior Analyst Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher. Provides support to students across environments including school, community, and vocational settings. Assist with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling. Maintain daily activity logs for your assigned student(s). Operate and or assist in the use of student mobility devices such as, but not limited to, walker, wheelchair, braces, canes, etc. Implement and support the student’s mode of communication as necessary for instructional purposes. Alert regular teacher to any problem or special information about your individual student (s). Serve as the chief source of information for your assigned students to help any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher. Accompany the student to all classes and activities throughout the day, unless otherwise specified by Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers. Attends meetings and in-services as required. Assists in fire drills and accident prevention according to procedures indicated in the school Employee Manual. Assumes other duties as assigned by the teacher and Director of Education.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma, Associates or Bachelor Degree Preferred One year’s experience in a related field
