Job Summary:

Assist Special Education students and provide support to the Special Education teacher. Maintain strict confidentiality with respect to information concerning students, personnel, and other administrative matters affecting the district.

Qualifications:

Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist childrewn with student line-up before classes begin each morning or at the end of the day.
Provide support and assistance to the classroom teacher including, but not limited to, creating bulletin boards and making copies.
Review student’s homework and create homework folders for the students.
Provide assistance and support in the classroom to students as needed.
Provide assistance with academics in all academic areas.
Accompany students to special events and to other classrooms, including music, art and gym.
Provide coverage at lunch periods to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
Provide information as needed to Special Education department and regular education teacher (if applicable) regarding a student’s behavior in special areas.
Have knowledge about the students and be prepared to provide assistance to special area teachers.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Education & Experience:

Must have Associate’s degree or higher or pass a local assessment test or hold at least forty-five (45) college credits or evidence of successful completion of required state test
In-person First Aid and CPR Training issued within 2 years.
Yearly paraprofessional training required – with a minimal of twenty (20) hours of training yearly
Must complete a PDE state approved crisis intervention restraint training shortly after being hired
Previous experience as an Aide in a school setting desired.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to reach above and below the waist Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects
Ability to use both hands for repetitive motion
Considerable bending and twisting of the body required
Some stooping and squatting required
Ability to lift and/or carry supplies and/or papers weighing no more than 25 lbs.
Ability to stand for long periods of time of the workday
Visual acuity
Auditory acuity

Level of Compensation:

This position’s salary is determined by the collective bargaining plan for Support Staff employees. The starting salary for this position is $19.90/hour. After the completion of the 90-day probationary period, this position is eligible for a raise to bring the salary to $20.40/hour.
