POSITION SUMMARY
Assist the classroom teacher and related service team to provide educational instruction to children with developmental disabilities as prescribed in the student’s Individual Educational Program (IEP) and in accordance with the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) regulations.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist classroom teacher and related service team in management and delivery of all aspects of children’s programs and instruction
Assist classroom teacher in planning and preparation of instructional activities including selection of instructional and collateral educational materials
Work with children in groups and 1:1 as assigned
Monitor children’s behaviors in the classroom, during lunch and at special activities outside, in the motor room and in the sensory room and provides necessary observations to team members
Prepare daily classroom materials
Actively participate in team meetings and other pertinent discussions of children served by the program
Assist in creating and organizing an optimal classroom environment including, but not limited to, setting up schedules, routines, and workspaces
Collect data specific to progress monitoring and behavior
Participate in development and implementation of IEP goals and objectives
Assist in maintaining consistency and integrity of program by participating in program assessment
Implement curriculum and Individualized Education Programs as developed by the IEP team
Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and crisis intervention using agency-trained protocols
Assist children with daily living skills including, but not limited to, toileting, participation in classroom mealtimes, hygiene activities, and classroom activities involving dressing
Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalency; Associate or bachelor’s degree in education, special education, early childhood, psychology, or a related field preferred
Two (2) years’ experience working with preschool-age children required; experience working with children with developmental disabilities preferred
Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate assessment tools and practices for children ages three to five preferred
Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate IEP development and service delivery practices for children ages three to five preferred
Knowledge of positive behavior supports preferred
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage and prioritize multiple, often competing, priorities
Demonstrated strong attention to detail
Demonstrated strong time management and organizational skills
Demonstrated excellent judgment with the ability to independently solve problems and make decisions with little or no need for direct supervision
Demonstrated ability to anticipate future needed changes or identify problem areas and take effective actions
Must be able to perform CPR and crisis intervention using agency-trained protocols
Must possess excellent customer interaction, collaboration, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills
