The Assistant Teacher will work closely with a lead teacher in class and with lead teachers and assistant teachers from other classes to as needed throughout the day to ensure the safety and well-being of students and to support the academic and social-emotional growth and development of all children in their care. This position’s schedule averages 38 hours per week during the regular work week. The hourly pay is commensurate with experience, and the compensation package includes paid vacation, paid holidays, and paid sick leave. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures and maintains a healthy, safe, clean, and developmentally appropriate environment for children, consistent with the requirements and regulations of the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. Models and supports consistent expectations for behavior and procedures for conflict resolution. Attends to children’s physical needs, including feeding, dressing, diapering/toileting, and health and wellness. Collaborates with the lead teacher to develop weekly lesson plans to nurture and stimulate all domains of children’s development. Uses creative approaches that engage children, appeal to multiple intelligences, and acknowledge individual learning differences. Communicates and collaborates regularly with parents, in person and using a variety of media. Participates in staff meetings and professional development opportunities offered by Playschool.
QUALIFICATIONS B.A.
preferred (Associate’s required), preferably in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education. A minimum of one year of teaching experience in a preschool or other work with children as young as 18 months old. A passion for early childhood education and commitment to progressive educational philosophy. A collaborative work style and strong communication skills. Familiarity with Jewish values, holidays, and customs is preferred but not required. Society Hill Synagogue Playschool is a warm and inclusive early childcare center for children ages 18 months-5 years old that embraces diversity in religion, ethnicity, race, and family structure. We have six classes and currently serve approximately 60 children and their families. Our philosophy is child-centered and play-based.
