Teacher AssistantTo work with students with disabilities under the direction, supervision of certified personnel and to assist students in reaching their goals as indicated on their IEPs.
Under Direction of Special Education Teacher:
1. Assist in implementing IEP goals.2. Carry out small group instruction and assist in one-on-one instruction as needed.3. Assist teachers and therapists in maintaining appropriate data and records4. Support the continuous implementation of skills and goals associated with students OT, SLP and PT needs.5. Carry out and maintain computer skills and communication devices for students.6. Implement equipment, sensory, mobility, behavior plans and self-care plans (toileting) per students needs – the physical ability to assist in lifting students for the purpose of positioning, changing, toileting, etc. is essential
Additional Requirements:
Assist students with self-help skills (grooming, toileting etc.)Assist students with mobility needs. (May involve lifting, toileting, etc.)Assist with lifting and positioning studentsAssist students in their environmental setting including the restroomAccompany students to physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech etc.
Observe and chart behavior.
Give positive reinforcement and support.
Provide close supervision for students with behavior problems.
Assist in implementing the behavior plan as set up by the supervising teacher according to the IEP.Ability and willingness to work with students who have special needs and/or aggressive behaviors (i.e. biting, kicking, hitting, emotional outburst, etc.)Assist with data keeping and recording.
Recognize the stages of an escalating crisis and intervene with evidence-based techniques to appropriately de-escalate.
Supervise safe spots.
