Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts |

Providence, RI TAPA:

Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts, an academically rigorous public charter school for the arts, seeks a Special Educator to serve a small group of middle and high school students with mild to moderate emotional and behavioral challenges. This special educator will provide a structured, nurturing environment that prioritizes emotional regulation, coping skill development, and academic growthwith the ultimate goal of transitioning students into full inclusion settings with their general education peers. The ideal candidate is an experienced special educator who is calm, consistent, and deeply student-centered. They believe in every students potential to succeed with the right support, and they approach behavioral challenges as opportunities for growth. This is not a self-contained classroom model; rather, the educator will support a flexible, responsive space for academic and behavioral support while helping students build the skills they need to spend most of their school day in general education classes. TAPAs creative community is enriched by the cultural, religious, racial, ethnic, and linguistic diversity of our neurodiverse families, students, and employees. Demographically, nearly all members of the TAPA student body are people of color, predominantly Latinx, with many students speaking both English and Spanish in their homes. A significant portion of TAPAs student body identifies as members of the LGBTQ+ community. We aim to hire staff members who reflect the diversity of our students and families and who demonstrate an understanding of the strengths and experiences they bring. This Special Educator will lead a small support-based classroom with a caseload of approximately 5 students, working closely with the Director of Special Education, social workers, and general education teachers to plan appropriate transitions, scaffold skill-building, and ensure academic and emotional progress. Over time, students may shift from full-day support to primarily general education settings, using this classroom as a flexible space to check in, reset, or receive targeted interventions. At its core, TAPA is a student-centered, caring community that fosters leadership, intellect, self-confidence, and responsibility. Respect for diverse experiences and inclusive approaches to teaching and learning are foundational to our school culture. Candidates with backgrounds or experiences that contribute to this work are encouraged to apply.
