This is an exciting opportunity for teacher assistants who are looking for a challenging yet rewarding experience. The Cornerstone School is a division of AccessPoint RI. Together, we are empowering children and adults with differing abilities. The Teacher Assistant is an individual who works with students requiring instructional, or behavioral assistance under the supervision of a Lead Teacher. Responsible for implementing and monitoring IEP goals, objectives, and curriculum for all assigned students with the Lead Teacher. The physical ability to assist in lifting students for positioning, changing, and toileting as needed. Responsible for documenting progress on specific goals, standards, or frameworks on time. Reinforces a students IEP goals and objectives during nonlesson times. Continues to communicate with students using all learning modalities. For example, oral, visual, auditory, and kinesthetic throughout the day and in every setting. Assist in planning and implementing the daily program for students under the Lead Teachers direction. Assist in the planning and preparation of the classroom. This includes maintaining order and cleanliness in the classroom and helping to make it an attractive environment to simulate learning. Performs duties in the absence of the Lead Teacher in the same manner as taught. Follows through on all instructions that the teacher and therapists give. Utilizes the classroom teacher or other supervisors when needed or when unsure of procedures. Respond to all students in a caring, supportive, and respectful manner using methods that are age appropriate and as taught by the classroom teacher. Perform all other duties as assigned. Must have a completed High School Diploma or GED An Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education, Paraprofessional Education, Elementary Education, Physical Education, or any other related fields are accepted. A minimum of one year of teaching assistant experience is preferred. Experience in working with children or adults with disabilities and successful completion of ParaPro and Teacher Assistant Training or any equivalent combination of education and experience are accepted.
