He/she will guide students towards gaining knowledge and skills in order to become productive community members through lessons in Native language proficiency, ESOL, mathematics, science, social studies and social/civic studies, health and overseeing recreation and physical education activities. He/she will also assist students in improving English proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing with the goal of preparing for the public school system. This position will assist children in adjusting to issues related to their social and academic development. This position is year round and does not follow typical state school system schedules. Implement provided curriculum. 3. Find and/or create necessary resources for curriculum. 4. Scaffold learning to meet student’s age and skill level. 5. Provide daily school routine for children of a variety ages and educational backgrounds. 6. Assist in implementation of each student’s educational plan, provide initial educational assessment and assess academic progress, oversee all school activities. 7. Assist Lead Teacher in maintaining records for students’ academic, health and recreational activities. 8. Participate as a team member and attend meetings with treatment team members to discuss children’s behavior in classroom if necessary. 9. Attend training provided internally and in the community and apply newly gained knowledge in providing services. 10. Provide written and verbal communication translation for program clientele and staff. 11. Organize and participate in recreational activities, such as games and field trips 12. Document and report according to contractual requirements and in accordance with HIPAA guidelines 13. Assume other duties assigned by supervisor.
Education:
High school diploma (or equivalent), Associates degree or some college credits preferred.
Experience:
Working with children in a school or daycare setting.
Specific skills/abilities:
Conversational level of Spanish, enjoys working as a team, flexible, good natured, firm, must be able to work and enjoy working with children, patient. Awareness and sensitivity to the service population’s cultural characteristics is required. Specialized knowledge, licenses, etc: Spanish language is required.
