Job DescriptionResponsibilities of a KIPP Nashville Support Teacher include, but are not limited to:

Flexibly Support Student Learning – primarily as an in-building Substitute TeacherEngage flexibly and adaptively to the needs of students across the school per the discretion of the PrincipalThis engagement could include, but is not limited to covering a classroom when a teacher is out, pulling small groups for intervention, moving into classroom positions should a staff member transition during the school year, classroom observations, and supporting school-wide procedures such as lunch, arrival, and dismissal. Curriculum Development and InstructionPlan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of individual studentsCommitment to School and Classroom CultureWork collaboratively with your school team and those across KIPP NashvilleHelp develop school-wide culture that best fits the needs of our students, teachers and familiesAttend and participate in all staff meetings and communicate openly with staffDevelop positive rapport with studentsCreate and foster a positive and calm learning environmentEnforce, uphold, and exhibit school’s values, student management policies and cultureFamily EngagementEstablish and maintain strong communication lines with families, as neededBe available for open houses, parent teacher conferences and other events involving parentsMake oneself available to students, parents and other staff membersGrowth MindsetPursue challenging professional goals each yearWilling to offer support and receive constructive feedback from colleagues in order to create a professional working atmosphere that is conducive to change and improvementParticipate in school-wide and individual professional development, including pre-service training over the summer and weekly during the academic year (held during school hours)QualificationsDesired ExperienceValid Tennessee teaching license OR clear pathway to state certification (Highly Preferred)Commitment to working with students from educationally under-resourced communitiesBachelor’s degree (Required)Pass Criminal Background CheckExperience and demonstrated success teaching students from educationally under-resourced communities (Highly Preferred)Experience and demonstrated success teaching students from educationally under-resourced communities (Highly Preferred)Desired CharacteristicsUnwavering commitment to KIPP Nashville’s mission, students, families, and communityFirm belief in affirming the identity of students, families and staffPassionate and committed to being a leader for racial justice and equity, and teaching in a school committed to anti-racismEagerness to collaborate and problem-solve with a variety of stakeholdersDemonstrate commitment to continue their professional development individuallyPossess an entrepreneurial spirit, be flexible, and willing to go above and beyond to meet the varied needs of studentsPassionate about data-driven instructionDemonstrates excitement in growing students into their highest selvesAdditional InformationCompensationOur comprehensive compensation package includes life insurance and long-term disability coverage provided by KIPP Nashville, voluntary medical and dental plans, in addition to retirement benefits and an annual salary increase. To establish equitable salary practices, the compensation package is derived from the regional KIPP Nashville Public Schools pay scale. This position is exempt and will follow a 10-month schedule.
