Job Description
High Needs Paraeducator/Teaching Assistant (Full-time, Early Elementary) Village School of North Bennington The Village School of North Bennington is seeking a full-time High Needs Teaching Assistant (Paraeducator) to work with early elementary students in both 1:1 and small group settings within a single classroom. The Teaching Assistant (TA) will work under the guidance of the Classroom Teacher and/or the Special Educator to implement the curriculum and to provide educational and social-emotional support to the student(s). This TA will be responsible for accompanying the class to and throughout all transitions to and from the homeroom, as well as accompanying the class to all Specials (Music, Gym, Library, and Art).
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY DUTIES
Work 1:1 or in small groups with students with academic challenges and/or who are exhibiting challenging behaviors to provide targeted interventions, provide general academic support, and provide some de-escalation, as needed. Provide toileting support for students who require assistance. Collect behavior data and monitor student progress, as needed and under the supervision of the Classroom Teacher and/or Special Educator Collaborate with Classroom Teacher, Special Educator, and School Counselor to provide academic and/or behavior support for students, as needed. Actively participate in Recess Duty in order to support students’ social skills within the school setting. Other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of School and/or Assistant Head of School
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent, required. Associates or Bachelors, preferred. Experience working with children in a school or similar setting, strongly preferred Must be certified in Crisis Prevention & Intervention (CPI) or willing to become certified as soon as possible Must demonstrate strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
