Job Summary:
The LD Tutors tutor/teach course content. Guide students in meeting academic deadlines. Assist in the development of general study, planning, and time-management skills. Review, discuss, and explain course material in a clear, effective, and creative manner. Conduct test review sessions. Assist entering freshmen, continuing, and international students.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Current University of Alabama junior, senior, or graduate student with a minimum 3.50 GPA. Formal tutoring or teaching experience. Experience working with high-risk student populations, learning impairments, and student development. Knowledge of college undergraduate courses in one or more areas, including but not limited to Business (AC, EC, FI, MKT, MGT, OM, MIS), Computer Science, Engineering, English (composition & literature), Foreign Language, Humanities, Social Science, Math, and Natural Science.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to work a minimum of 6 hours a week.
Skills and Knowledge:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Blackboard, and MyBama.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience developing educational plans and preparing study materials. Experience as a University Instructor or Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA). Graduate student working in programs such as Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Human Development, Education, Higher Education Administration, or similar program.
Enrollment Requirements:
Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
