Job Summary:
A Tutor provides academic assistance to students in one-on-one and small group settings. The tutor helps clarify course content, reinforce learning, and build students’ confidence and independent learning skills. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.
Salary:
The compensation for this position is $11-$15 per hour to commensurate with education and experience.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide subject-specific tutoring to students enrolled in college-level courses
- Assist students in understanding assignments and preparing for exams
- Model effective study strategies and time management techniques
- Maintain records of tutoring sessions and submit required documentation
- Communicate regularly with supervisor regarding student progress or concerns
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all student interactions
- Attend tutor training sessions and ongoing professional development as required
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of subject matter in one or more college-level disciplines
- Ability to communicate clearly and patiently with diverse student populations
- Responsible, dependable, and able to work independently
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Comfortable with online platforms (e.
g., MS365, Blackboard, Zoom, Teams, etc.) to assist students with navigating digital coursework and learning tools.
Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED required. Must have successfully completed the course(s) to be tutored with a grade of A or B, and demonstrate equivalent subject proficiency. College students must be in good academic standing and have completed at least one semester of college-level coursework in the subject area.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Prior experience tutoring or assisting peers academically, faculty recommendation in subject area(s) to be tutored .
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit for extended periods and use a computer for academic support tasks
