Candidates must be caring, qualified, and committed to the success of students. Certified teachers strongly preferred, BA required or in process. Since 1977 Huntington Learning Center has helped meet students’ specific and unique learning needs. The result is demonstrable gains in learning, as well as gains in confidence and motivation. Students begin with a diagnostic academic evaluation, then Huntington develops a unique curriculum plan based on the evaluation findings and the family’s goals. Then tutors guide students through, methodically building each student’s academic skills according to that plan. At the Lake Nona Huntington Learning Center we tutor children from age 5 through college in reading, writing, mathematics, study skills, phonics, vocabulary, science, test prep, high school entrance examinations, and SAT/PSAT and ACT preparation. We offer after-school, weekend, and summer academic hours at the tutoring center. Every tutor at HLC-Lake Nona is a qualified, caring, and dedicated professional, interested in tutoring here because they love helping students succeed. Our tutors are required to go through intensive initial and ongoing training in Huntington teaching methods and our highly developed curriculum. Pay is $14-20/hour, depending on skills and experience. Part time opportunities afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays; summer hours also include 10-12 M-Th. Dress is professional, business casual attire. Security/background check will be run. Location is 13848 Narcoossee Blvd, No. 106., Orlando FL, in the Publix Shopping Center.

Skills:

• Experience working in a classroom setting or providing instruction to multiple students
• Ability to engage and educate and engage students of all ages and backgrounds
• Flexibility and adaptability in adjusting teaching methods to meet individual student needs
• Patience, empathy, and the ability to build rapport with students
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students, other tutors, and staff

Responsibilities:

• Provide one-on-one tutoring in early reading skills, and various subjects and grade levels, for multiple students, by implementing their individualized Huntington lesson plans
• Assess and document student performance and progress with specific comments for each lesson
• Suggest adaptations to individualized lesson plan based on observations of each student’s needs and learning style; provide to staff
• Collaborate with other tutors and staff to ensure student success
• Create a positive and encouraging learning environment
