JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
At Florida Polytechnic University, the Tutoring and Learning Center (TLC) is where Student Workers – Peer Tutors assist students with questions, course material, study techniques, and other academic support.
JOB DESCRIPTION RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
As a Peer Tutor, you will: Hold weekly tutoring hours in the TLC for courses you are approved to tutor (minimum of 7 hours per week). Tutor at least 2-3 freshman-level courses. Collaborate with course coordinators to ensure clear and consistent communication with students. Attend monthly meetings with the TLC Administration and bi-weekly (or as needed) meetings with course coordinators.
Expected Commitment:
Active Tutoring:
7-10 hours per week in the TLC.
Meetings:
1-2 hours every 2 weeks for meetings.
Additional Duties:
Up to 1 hour of professional development (e.g., creating handouts, attending training) and up to 30 minutes of preparation time per week.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Demonstrate strong study skills, time management, and the ability to lead one-on-one tutoring sessions and student study groups. Commit to maintaining weekly hours in the TLC and attending regular meetings with course coordinators and/or the TLC Administration. If selected for an interview, you will be contacted. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be currently enrolled or attending classes at Florida Polytechnic University as an undergraduate student. Have completed at least one semester at Florida Polytechnic University. Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum semester GPA of 2.75. Have earned a grade of B+ or better in courses they will tutor, as well as in key freshman courses.
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF LAW
This position requires a criminal background check. This position is subject to federal and state privacy regulations.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE
Varies and will be determined based on course schedule and research needs.
EXPECTED STARTING SALARY
$14.05 hourly, with a maximum of 20 hours per week for all university employment combined.
