QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include: Enrollment as a full or part time student at Indian River State College with grades of “B” or higher in tutorial discipline of Mathematics, Science, Health Science, English, Reading, and/or English As A Second Language (ESL);
Ability to convey knowledge of tutorial discipline to others in a practical and comprehensive manner;
Ability to work independently as well as with others;
Ability to recognize and respond to individual differences of students from a culturally diverse student population;
Willingness to make students active partners in the learning process;
Ability to pay close attention to detail as well as the possession of good judgment and a strong work ethic;
Computer proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office and the Internet;
Ability to communicate effectively with others both verbally and through written skills;
Ability to positively represent the
ASC. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: Providing academic support and encouraging students to become independent learners;
Embedded in STEM courses of mathematics and science;
Mentoring and support of STEM Pioneer students;
Work with STEM Student Success Coaches, Academic Support Center, and STEM faculty;
Monitor live streaming sections of mathematics and science;
Cultivating and maintaining an environment that is conducive to student learning.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: Working with the Library Director and ASC Learning Facilitator and faculty and staff to provide tutorial assistance and academic support to students;
Participating in job training/in-service activities to meet the specific duties and responsibilities of the position;
Facilitating student study groups in the ASC or in other designated areas, i.e., classrooms, computer labs;
Visiting classes to promote the services available in the ASC that support student success;
Utilizing resources to promote/enhance student learning, i.e., texts, software, IRSC/ASC websites, printed materials;
Maintaining an awareness of current College and department policies and guidelines;
Complete Course Embedded Learning Assistant training course;
Completing other responsibilities as assigned by the Administrative Director of Library Services and ASC Learning Facilitator.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Physical skills required include the ability to lift heavy boxes and materials, to move equipment from room to room, and to work for extended periods at a computer station. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. Indian River State College expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
