Job Summary Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) academic tutors are responsible for providing tutoring and instructional support for GEAR UP cohort students. Responsibilities Maintains attendance reports for GEAR UP students. Collaborates with the teacher of record and instructional leadership to plan and implement small-group instruction. Uses students¿ notes and lesson observations to determine what concepts need to be taught or retaught. Demonstrates familiarity with textbooks and instructional materials used by GEAR UP students. Communicates academic progress and areas of concern. Takes an active role in developing the academic and personal strengths of GEAR UP students. Serves as a role model/mentor to GEAR UP students by demonstrating appropriate academic and social behaviors and always wearing appropriate attire. Utilizes appropriate interventions to redirect student behavior. Follows daily time schedule as assigned by GEAR UP Director and Middle Georgia State University Financial Aid Coordinator. Adheres to Code of Ethics standards and models professional conduct at all times. Adheres to Middle Georgia State University work study guidelines for hours worked per week. Assumes other academic duties as assigned by the GEAR UP Director. Student is required to retain Family Education Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA) confidentiality. Required Qualifications Minimum GPA of 2.5 Be currently enrolled at Middle Georgia State University for at least 6 credit hours Students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress. Preferred Qualifications Strong math, science or English background is desired.
