Approx. 20 hours a week, including the hours of approx. 2:00-5:30PM. Monday-Friday; additional office hours flexible and to be set with supervisor
Supervisor:
Senior Youth Coordinator The Bright Futures Afterschool Program currently serves approximately 155 students in grades K-5 across our elementary school partner sites. Program activities focus on homework support, interactive core subject learning, enrichment activities, and literacy tutoring. The Class Instructor will support the Lead Teacher at our International Community School site in Decatur, GA in carrying out daily afterschool program activities. Responsibilities include supervising students, implementing lessons, providing literacy and homework support, facilitating enrichment activities, taking attendance, and administering assessments. The Class Instructor may also perform additional duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher.
General Description:
Manage one assigned classroom of elementary school age students as well as AmeriCorps members, volunteers, interns, and tutors if assigned to do so. Support the daily operations of your assigned classroom including implementing lessons, engaging with students, taking attendance and administering assessments and handling minor issues. Implement grant required youth literacy (ESOL), youth development, and academic curriculum in assigned classroom in collaboration with AmeriCorps members. Administer standards of positive behavior support and discipline for the purpose of ensuring the safety and well-being of all students and address student issues and conflicts appropriately as needed. Tutor refugee youth (grades K-5th ) in all academic subjects, specifically focusing on literacy skills, self-sufficiency, creativity, academic progress Attend trainings, events and meetings for the New American Pathways Youth Program, occasionally outside of regular hours Report any suspected cases of child abuse and child neglect to the Lead Teacher for other New American Pathways Social Services as needed Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed
Skills and Competencies:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience working with youth; teaching background is preferred At least one year of teaching ( both formal and informal ) youth under the age of 18 Excellent written and verbal English communication skills Ability to work with a wide diversity of individuals and be sensitive to all cultures, ethnicities, and religious backgrounds Flexible and able to work with others in a fast-paced environment and under a variety of circumstances Ability to advocate on behalf of refugee youth Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software Submit to criminal background check and driver history check
Compensation:
This is a part-time position with a starting salary range of $16-$21 hourly based on experience.
