Summary:
Recognizing that Out of School Time programs are critical to achild’s academic success in school, the
SCHOONER
Program providesstudents with a range of activities including homework assistance,writing, science exploration, physical education and field trips. The
SCHOONER
Program serves children ages 5 to 12 years. The group leaderposition will work with the individual children and groups as designatedby program needs.
Requirements:
1.
Minimum education and experience:
High school diploma or GED (general equivalency diploma) stronglypreferred. Group Leader qualifications, as defined in EEC standards forschool-age programs. Completion of a college-level course in childgrowth and development. 2.
Licenses and certifications:
? Currentcertification in first aid and CPR preferred; certification within sixmonths of employment required. ? Satisfactory Criminal Offender RecordInquiry (CORI) results. ? Evidence of compliance with agency and statehealth requirements. 3. Knowledge, skills, and abilities: a.
Knowledgeof:
? Program goals and objectives. ? Program regulations, standards,and reporting requirements. ? Developmentally-appropriate practice. ?Positive child guidance procedures and practices. ? Cultural competency.b.
Skill in:
? Verbal communication, including, but not limited to:
Providing information about child development to families, discussing achild?s progress, problems, and accomplishments with their families andothers who have educational responsibility for the child, andinterpreting the agency?s philosophy, goals, and programs to familiesand other visitors. Fluency in a second language a plus. Understandingand carrying out verbal instructions. Written communication, including,but not limited to: Preparing children?s progress reports, recordingobservations about children, writing notes to families, and completingforms. Literacy in a second language a plus. Understanding and carryingout written instructions. c.
Ability to:
Respond sensitively tochildren, families, staff, and other persons of diverse experiential,educational, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds. Supervise,mentor, and support other regular staff, substitutes, interns, andvolunteers. Completion of a college-level supervision, administration,and/or leadership course strongly preferred. ? Promote a cooperativework environment. ? Exercise good judgment in unexpected or emergencysituations. 4.
Working conditions and physical effort:
a. Work requiresfrequent exercise of moderate physical effort, including, but notlimited to: Stoop, squat, sit (including sitting on the floor and onchild-sized furniture), or otherwise closely interact with children.
Bend, reach, stretch, and participate in play and other activities, bothinside and outside. Accompany and quickly access all areas wherechildren may be located, including classrooms, bathrooms, steps orstairways, entrances, buses, outside play areas, or field triplocations. Walk at a moderate pace on a variety of surfaces in thecontext of taking children on neighborhood walks, field trips, and otheractivities. Lift children, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 75pounds. b. Physical ability to safely conduct an active learning programfor children, including, but not limited to: Hear and see at a distancerequired for outdoor supervision of children and to maintain safety.
Move quickly to supervise and assist children. React quickly to preventinjury or harm to a child or, on an infrequent basis, to safeguardchildren during an emergency, including threat of fire, disaster, orimminent danger. Emergency response may require running, lifting, and/orcarrying children. Ability to occasionally work outside of normalprogram operations (attend staff meetings & training)
