Job Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and organized Part-Time Volunteer Coordinator to manage communications and reporting around our volunteer base and support our tutoring programs. As an integral member of the R2S team, the Part-Time Volunteer Coordinator will recruit volunteers, support trainings, and provide supervision and support, ensuring volunteers integrate into R2S and its community partners all while aligning with our mission and goals. R2S partners with public early childhood education, elementary schools, and community programs to support students in developing reading skills and goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Volunteer Management and Support:
Manage and plan volunteer recruitment Support volunteer/tutor assignments and scheduling Provide one-on-one co-planning support, informed by most recent student data, using a variety of R2S literacy resources to build interventions. Monitor and evaluate volunteer experiences through data collection and provide necessary support. Act as a liaison among volunteers, R2S staff, and community partners Assist in observing and supporting literacy tutors and community partner staff. Participate in regular staff, partner, community, volunteer and tutor meetings, trainings and other community events. Inventory management, ensuring that volunteers have materials needed for the successful execution of tasks
Program Development, Implementation and Evaluation:
Collaborate with R2S staff to identify volunteer opportunities and create meaningful and impactful volunteer roles. Maintain records of crucial volunteer and student documentation Track and report on volunteer and tutor activities, hours, and contributions. Organize and facilitate volunteer recognition events and activities. Serve as the main point of contact for volunteers and tutors, maintaining regular communication and ensuring they feel valued and engaged. Foster a positive and inclusive volunteer environment. In conjunction with the Elementary Literacy Director, collaborate and communicate effectively with early childhood and elementary partners to coordinate literacy programming in Asheville and Buncombe County.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain and collect accurate volunteer, tutor, and student data. Actively collaborate and execute tasks with the Elementary Literacy Director and community partners in designing and implementing tools, programs and presentations directly related to our mission. Develop and implement strategies to attract volunteers through various channels (e.g., social media, community events, higher education, and local organizations). Coordinate and support orientation and training to ensure volunteers are prepared for their roles (this includes but is not limited to: communicating volunteer schedules, accessing literacy resources, and planning in-office support needed to begin their roles.) Assist with other administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in volunteer coordination, reading intervention support, human resources, or a related field. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Experience working with student academic data and implementing Science of Reading strategies Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Proficiency in Google Suite and experience with volunteer management software is a plus. Communicative, empathetic, resolution-oriented Passion for the organization’s mission and a commitment to community-driven literacy.
Education and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., social work, education, nonprofit management, human resources) and, or at least 3-5 years of experience in a similar role. Status Non-Exempt – Part Time Supervision – Co-Executive Directors Part-time position (up to 30 hours per week) Occasional evenings and weekends may be required for events and meetings. Ability to work in a variety of settings, including office environments and community locations.
Ergonomics:
sitting, bending, stooping, standing, 15% repetitive keyboard work, seeing, verbal communications, lift up to 25 pounds.
